Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project was prepared for 40 students (4 groups) of technical school who specialize in hotel management and tourism. Each group had a tutor. Trainees had placements in 4* and 5* hotels in Malta. Students of upper classes were selected for training because they have already gained considerable professional experience during placements at Polish hotels and managed to cope with all tasks given in Malta. We think that learning not only theory, but especially through practical training, is the best way to gain high quality qualifications. Students learnt the trade at the reception, restaurant, hotel bars, chambermaid service and in the beach hotel service. Need of the projects: -developing competencies and professionalism in hospitality -using in Poland new experience, knowledge and skills in latest techniques and methods of work that students will learn during placements in Malta -better chance to get a job on European labour market -support of trainees in getting experience abroad -overcoming all kinds of barriers such as language, cultural, as well as getting courage at work and in interpersonal relationships -reacting on development and changes made in hospitality -rapid adaptation to changes on labour market and expectations of employers Aims of the projects: -developing of foreign language competencies and especially professional English -learning the basis of Maltese language -professional development of trainees and quality of services rendered by them -learning of self-reliance and resourcefulness -learning of mutual respect, tolerance and understanding -acknowledgement with Mediterranean culture and customs in Malta -preparation to active and responsible participation in social, cultural and economic life in local, regional and international context -creativity, enterprising, taking courage in communication in foreign languages and being active in their branch. It will help them to find a job in an international environment in the future. In Malta they showed that they are solid and good at work, that it is worthwhile to appreciate them and employ in the future. Periods of placements: 1st group IV-V. 2015 2nd group V-VI. 2015 3rd group IX-X. 2015 4th group IX-X. 2015 Criteria of candidates selection estimated knowledge of English language, personal culture, good marks at school and at practical training and also social activity at school. Additional points were given to students who had got difficult financial and family situation and also the ones from rural area. There were girls and boys in groups. They had the same chances in recruitment procedures. Students became more mature, self-reliance, confident, enterprising and creative after placements in Malta. They also gained skills how to solve various problems. Internships helped them find themselves in profession, appreciate it and like it. It is important for students to learn patience, to be tolerant and how to work in a group. All trainees got Europass-Mobility documents in Polish and English version and certificates from hotels and our school after completion of internships. The best students received references, as well. They also got work offers. All above mentioned documents were prepared individually for everybody. Our foreign partners were prepared to use criteria according to European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) Agreement signed with HO&T Consulting specified those detail criteria and grading scale. Those documents enriched trainees' CVs and will be passports to their future career. Polish and Maltese tutors, English teachers , vocational teachers as well as Polish hotels took part in evaluation. The measure of evaluation and validation was: -used in the project evaluation criteria ( ECVET) and its results -added value visible in the results of comparative English language tests taken before the departure of trainees and after their return -interviews with employers and their views on the progress made -the results of questionnaires that participants anonymously filled. They were done after each part of placements and concerned various aspects-the quality of project management, pedagogical-cultural and linguistic courses implemented, supervision during work and leisure, tutors, etc. -number of trainees who got into university or received attractive jobs -the number of people who left for work abroad, etc. These data was accumulated by the manager of practical training. Others: -better marks and more candidates for placements abroad, -more pupils eager to continue education in our school. Dissemination of the project took place in ZS 12 - showcases in the hallways, in other schools, during conferences, on school Internet website, through Maltese and Polish media, among friends and family.
