Polish - Lithuanian Academy (PLA) is an international project, whose main aim is to develop and strengthen relations between Polish and Lithuanian students by providing them with a great platform to discuss about both countries` history, cultural heritage, politics, civic or democratic values and nowadays issues. The project is continuous: first academy was organized in 2009 and this year it will be held for the eighth time.
The main participants and organizers of PLA are students and graduates of Jagiellonian University and Vilnius University. The majority of participants are studying political science and international relations, so they have basic knowledge about common Polish and Lithuanian history, cultural peculiarities, geopolitical situation. PLA creates conditions to broaden this knowledge in innovative ways and, what is more important , the project provides a chance for civic Polish - Lithuanian youth to collaborate with each other and establish new and informal ties directly, which are really important for relations between two neighboring nations and their common work in the European level.
In April 2015 PLA will last for 5 days and will take place in Vilnius and Sejny region, Poland. During this time 10 participants from Lithuanian and 10 participants from Poland will visit local communities and engage in various non – formal activities that will provide them with a great chance to have a look at borderland‘s historical and cultural heritage from a more creative and unexpected point of view. This will be one of the main priorities of PLA in 2015.
