The youth exchange "Roots" involves 48 youth between 13 and 17 years old from Poland, Ukraine and Germany. It will take place from October 5th to October 11th 2015 in Bernau near Berlin, Germany.
Most of the participants come from low income families. They have never been abroad and therefore had little chance to encounter and interact with other cultures. Many of the involved youth also have underdeveloped social skills such as team work. The three project partners want to expand their educational opportunities through informal learning in order to increase social competences such as intercultural competence, language skills and team work ability.
Main focus of the project is the common history of the three participating countries - Poland, Ukraine and Germany - as well as Europe. The emphasis will be on the influence of history on our perceptions of other countries .The participatns will discuss, comparen and reflect on history and its influence on culture. This will allow the connection to the present and the future: how does history influence our perception of other countries? What are the communalities between the countries and European countries in general?
Through this, the participants improve their awareness of political and social connections, strenghten their intercultural competences and their communication skills.
