FINISHED
Ljubljana City Library (LCL) highlights the education of users as an important role in the local environment. It aims to create educational activities and services for vulnerable target groups. New forms of education, various forms of literacy and the rapid development of ICT require permanent professional education for library employees.
The main objectives of »Getting new skills for the library« mobility project are improved professional and personal competencies of employees in LCL:
- Improving practical skills for work (planning and performing of adult education).
- Achieving broader understanding of adult education in Europe.
- Improving English language competences and competences for other selected foreign languages.
- Increasing digital literacy through the use of advanced ICT.
- Increased ability to prepare and participate in international projects.
Participation in the project will enable an overview of the methods of the partner organizations. Participants will be included in a job shadowing in partner organizations and presenting the work of LCL and functioning of the Slovenian system of adult education. Participants will transfer best heard practices in their daily work in LCL and beyond.
Mobility project will be attended by four employees working in the field of informing and educating library adult users from following target groups: unemployed, less educated and elderly. The project will comprise 4 mobilities within 5 days. All four mobilities are intended for professional development of employees – a job shadowing. The project consists of three phases: mobility preparation, mobility performance, activities after the completion of the mobility (transfer of acquired knowledge into practice, dissemination of results). We chose four partner organizations that have previous experiences and knowledge in working with selected target groups: improving services and trainings for job seekers (Italy) digital literacy training (Ireland), providing health information and education, and language training (United Kingdom).
Participating in a mobility project will be a visible improvement for LCL in the field of quality of adult education of the user target groups, new knowledge in the field of teaching and learning, additional reference of cooperation at European level and recognition of LCL as possible mobility host in adult education field. Experience and results of mobility will be visible in the long term: on local level - the creation of new services that are relevant to all residents of the local community, improving participation in lifelong learning, new knowledge to reduce the various exclusions; on regional level - the integration of the results of mobility into public libraries in Central Slovenia region; on national level - the transmission of the mobility results to cultural and educational organizations and through membership in various professional bodies and associations influence on educational policies; on European level : strengthening the links between participating organizations in the project. Effects of the project will be increased by diversity of dissemination of project results.
