Play Europe! Youngsters take action for Europe through Sport is an exchange programme between young people within the Kay Action 1 of the Erasmus Plus. This exchange took place in Ravenna from the 16th to 20th of June 2015 - ITALY. 45 young people from the cities of Speyer, Chichester and Ravenna have been involved for 5 days of activities whose aim was to stimulate the acquisition and increase the level of knowledge, skills and abilities of the learners about other European cultures, developing a conscience and a European mentality through their direct action, thus improving their personal development. By becoming "active citizens" youngsters interacted with different European cultures, valuing the European identity itself and their sense of belonging to the Union. To accomplish these goals, the partners identified sport to be a language and a common tool of dialogue among all participants in the exchange. Play Europe! supported learners in their self-assessment about the experience itself and the level of skills and abilities inbound and outbound on the topics covered. During three months of the project, with a peak during the exchange, participants grew in a European perspective and becomed fully conscious. The working language was English. The partnership comes from the network of twinned towns of Ravenna, which finally wants to actively involve its young citizens. These citizens identified the need for transnational comparison with other young Europeans, in particular their "twins ".
The activities of the five days have been structured to achieve 4 Learning Outcomes defined by the partners in the planning phase: 1 know, the European Union and its organization; 2 understand, in a critical and sensitive way, the concept of European Citizenship, Europeanist Identity and the sense Belonging to the European Union; 3 active citizenship actions; 4. Evaluation of the acquired skills. The activities have been Workshops, Creative Labs, interactive debates, tools of direct citizen participation, Focus Group, sports, games and activities in the city’s streets, as well as, in the evening, moments of socialization and cultural exchange with the realities of the region. Moreover, meetings and debates on the central themes of the exchange with experts from the Europe Direct offices and the University of Bologna - Campus of Ravenna. The participants had a very rich and challenging schedule and each day there is a moment of self-evaluation and sharing of views of the day’s activities, to ensure that the LOs are gradually met, and to make sure that the exchange is a positive experience for the participants. Through this joint moments of defining the acquired skills, personal development of learners in a European way has been assured. On the last day, training has been specified and has been shown how, through fun and engaging activities, it was simple to acquire so much knowledge, skills and abilities.
