Physics of the tau lepton: from chiral dynamics to lepton flavour violation phenomena (tau decay)
Start date: Nov 18, 2010, End date: Nov 17, 2012 PROJECT  FINISHED

The goal of the project is to study hadronic decay modes of the tau lepton in the Resonance Chiral Perturbation Theory, use these results to improve their description in the Monte Carlo generator TAUOLA and make thereby possible an adequate analysis of the large data samples of tau lepton decays collected at the B factories. Results of such analysis will allow one to perform sensitive tests of the Standard Model and extract its fundamental parameters, such as the coupling constant of strong interactions, the CKM matrix element |V_us|, the hadronic contribution to the theoretical estimate for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and others. In addition, modelling of hadronic form factors will help in searches for lepton flavour violating decays of the tau lepton with hadrons in the final state.
