Vocational training for 50plus employees in Germany is not well coordinated in small and medium sized enterprises. The absence of advanced vocational training measures makes it hard for older employees to be (re-)integrated into the labour market. Small and medium sized-enterprises cannot offer courses in advanced vocational training because transparent information, instructions and assistance are generally lacking. They rely on external courses, which are often much more expensive than internal proposals. It is very difficult for older employees and small and medium-sized enterprises to find out about the right advanced vocational measures on the WWW. Thus it is no surprise that older employees (50plus) are disproportionally highly affected by unemployment. Small and medium-sized enterprises often lack systematic methods of evaluation and instruments to check the results of advanced vocational training.In many cases, SMEs carry out educational activities as part of short-term economic adjustments. The process for developing quality standards for continuing vocational training lacks transparency. This situation is further exacerbated by the poor co-ordination of the interfaces between the educational system and the labour market. An expert is therefore needed, specifically a certified operational educational adviser, to guide SMEs competently through the education market.
