Phiren Amenca Changemakers - Strengthening the networking and active citizenship of youth leaders and youth workers
Start date: Jan 1, 2015,
End date: Dec 31, 2015
PROJECT
FINISHED
This one year lasting multi-measure project aims to strengthen the activism of young Roma and non-Roma as former volunteers, multipliers and youth leaders to engage for a Roma youth movement by building a long-term sustainable and self-organized youth structure, and by promoting volunteering and the Phiren Amenca mission to challenge stereotypes and racism.
The project involves 9 Roma and non-Roma youth and voluntary service organizations from 9 countries that follow a common mission to strengthen the inclusion of Roma youth and to challenge stereotypes and racism. This project is built as a follow-up project to the Youth in Action 4.3 Networking project “Phiren Amenca Networking for Roma and non-Roma youth in the European Voluntary Service”, which had a strong impact on the capacity-building of Roma organizations and their first access to the EVS and Erasmus+ program. As a result the potential of the individual and collective engagement of (former) volunteers is increasingly acknowledged by the engaged organizations. The volunteers had various small meetings in March and May 2014, and they made a set of recommendations to the Phiren Amenca network how to develop a structure of former volunteers. They request a strong youth and volunteer participation and an open process that allows a large number of volunteers to take part in the establishment of such a structure. Therefore, this multi-measure project was created in partnership with the engaged former volunteers, in order to design a process that strengthens a quality leadership and facilitation of the process, the exchange of experiences between partner organizations, the training of volunteers and youth activities to develop the structure and self-initiatives, as well as a large-scale youth event and platform of youth activists/volunteers.
The project includes the following actions:
Activity 1: Preparation and Working Group Meeting on Active Citizenship
Dates: 11.-15.02.2015 in Budapest, Hungary
4-day lasting working group meeting aims to strengthen a steering team of former volunteers, engaged multipliers and partner organizations in order to develop a strategy and toolkits to strengthen the activism of volunteers and former volunteers, in particular by preparing some tools and management structures within the international network, as well as by sharing existing practices of the member organizations.
Activity 2: Phiren Amenca Networking and Capacity-Building Event
Dates: 15.-19.03.2015 in Brussel, Belgium
The networking meeting of Phiren Amenca aims to address key questions on European level regarding youth activism, active citizenship and voluntary service with a strong focus on the inclusion on Roma youth.
Activity 3: Platform of former volunteers - Training-course on active citizenship
Dates: 02.-07.06.2015 in Stuttgart, Germany
The four day lasting training-course for former volunteers aims to build the capacity of former international volunteers to act as multipliers and youth leaders in their communities and to build a long-term platform of volunteers.
Activity 4: Phiren Amenca Changemaker Festival
Social Forum of European Roma Youth Movement in European Youth Capital Cluj 2015
Dates: 16.-23.08.2015 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania
As Cluj will be the European Youth Capital 2015, Phiren Amenca will organize a big Roma youth event there in order to become visible among the youth movement and youth organizations, and to create a space for activism and dialogue among Roma and non-Roma youth.
The multi-measure project will allow the partnership to build a long-term platform of volunteers that strengthens initiative, engagement and social entrepreneurship of young Roma and non-Roma. It will strengthen a process of the Phiren Amenca network to write a new strategy regarding a support system for volunteers that enhances individual initiatives and active citizenship. While the network allows to share practices and experiences of members, the network also gives incentives for member and partner organizations to develop their own work. An educational toolkit on the work of active citizenship for Roma youth empowerment will support the members and give visibility to the outcomes, which will be widely disseminated through the publication, a documentary film and the website tools.
