Périodes de Formation en Milieu Professionnel : des Ardennes aux Pays-Bas.
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school, ‘Lycée Le Château’, benefits from a double label: High School for careers in Logistics and High School for careers in Services to Individuals. This is thanks to the whole team’s work to wards a common goal : the students’ success, for which each staff member shows great dedication. We host 520 students who prepare vocational baccalaureate or vocational certificate diploma and we develop various partnerships to better the students’ theoretical learning, organise their work placements and help their reflection over their orientation after graduation. Le Château High School is located in the heart of the city of Sedan, where unemployement is high and many suffer from difficult living conditions. The diversity of the vocational trainings we offer creates a rich mixture of variousstudents’ profiles. This is an important asset for our project since it targets several professionnal fields. With this project, we want to satisfy the students’ needs and enhance the teachers’ skills. Because young people living in Sedan and its surroundings are not used to move geographically, it is necessary to develop this possibility, as well as the practise of the English language, including through learning vocabulary applied in professional fields (for both students and teachers). The building of this project has brought together a close team of people, and it simple mentation has created a dynamic within our school and our whole staff, which actively participates in our school development plan. The development of high-quality international partnerships is strongly linked to the labels our school benefits from. That’s why the committee designed to monitor the labels will also get involved in this project which will in fact bring together all the components of our school. Reforming vocational trainings by constantly searching to meet with the companies’ needs and by providing a needed modernization is at the heart of our approach. This project will allow us to address these evolutions through the discovery of other practises, other ways of functioning, and through the analysis that will be made by the teachers who will follow the young people concerned. The aim of this project is obviously to enable students to enrich their education and their professional experience through internships that could lead to a certification or contribute to the process of graduation through the « mobility » exam created by the French Ministry of Education in 2014. We also want to promote self-esteem, openness, professional curiosity, European citizenship and the discovery of other cultures. We also want to develop and put forward the students’ and teachers’ skills, as well as encouraging professional mobility and exchanges of expertise. All this would serve our main goal : make it easier for students to find a job at the end of their training. We would send ten of our students for an internship abroad, all in their first year of vocational baccalaureate, from four departments : Services to Individuals, Logistics, Administration and Management, and Business. The project will be followed, through every step, by a committee under the responsibility of the Headmaster. This group will be in charge of recruiting students, with the help of the whole teaching staff, through a process including cover letters and real-life professional scenarios. The selected students will be able to do their internship in a partner company for a month. Several trips to Heerlen have so far allowed us to establish partnership with these structures : Ikea, a retirement house, the Tourist Office, a museum, a cultural center and several supermarkets. The students will be evaluated in their work placement by teachers and professionals from the partner structure they are in. The teachers will better their skills by working on site with the professionals from the partner companies, and from afar by exchanging emails. The success of these internships will require a serious preparation with the students, a true and efficient monitoring during the internship and a promotion of these experiences, of which the committee will have the responsibility. Our project aims at initiating the students to the professional practises within another European country, respecting the frame work of their training, and at improving their English skills, encouraging them to contemplate working beyond the French borders. Our wishis to provide them with the openness needed to start a professional career within Europe, along with extensive knowledge of the techniques related to their occupation. This experience will create a dynamic within our school that we could apply to other such international projects and to the creation of consortium with other vocational high schools in the region.
