The IES Santa Engracia is a public vocational training center in Madrid. The school offers Higher Education Vocational training (CFGS or Short cycles ) and non Higher Education Vocational Diplomas (CFGM):
- Family of Personal Image : CFGS Image Consulting, CFGS Integral Aesthetics and Wellness , CFGM Beauty Therapy, CFGM Hairdressing and Cosmetics , CFGM Stage Make Up and Basic Vocational Training Hair & Beauty .
- Family of Textiles, Garment and Leather : CFGS Pattern Making and Fashion and CFGM Garnment Construction and Fashion.
It offers training in two shifts day and evening .
The center is located in a central district of Madrid. At the moment it is a leading center in its fields of knowledge.
The "Combing Europe" project aimed at students’ and teachers’ mobility from Non Higher Education Vocational Diploma in Hairdressing and Hair Cosmetics. It proposed de mobility of 2 students for a month and 2 teachers for a week, for training in companies. The teachers' stay took the form of Job Shadowing within the hosting company Training Center.
This project was intended to meet the objectives of the two participating partners.
In the case of IES Santa Engracia it seeked innovation and improvement of the teaching, the possibility of observing in situ the operation of the german dual Vocational system, the improvement of teachers' and students' foreign language skills, and the increase of the students' employability.
The host partner has been the german hairdressing company Domino Friseur & Shop. It consists of a chain of hairdressing salons located in different cities in the center of Germany and a training center that operates under the dual system of vocational training. The company's knowledge base is located in Marburg, in the region of Hesse. The main objective of this partner was to find qualified personnel for direct recruiting.and to learn about other teaching innovative methodologies in this field.
Both the IES Santa Engracia and the German company had previous experience in Europeran projects and human and material resources to carry out the project. The completion of the project had an impact on the people involved as well as on the sending and hosting institutions. Some aspects measured to determine this impact were:
Considering students mobility:
- The level of language proficiency reached after mobility,
- Increased employability.
- Professional itinerary followed after mobility.
- The interest in cooperating with the institution’s European programmes.
- A greater sense of professional motivation.
And for the teachers involved :
- Improved language skills.
- The application of new teaching methodologies.
- The use of greater diversity of educational resources.
- The will to engage and collaborate with European programmess at the school.
In the long term, the completion of this and other European projects is having an impact on the institution with an improvement in the teaching provided, the stablishment of links between teaching institutions and companies and creating a greater interest in European programmes
