PEGASUS - giving wings to the career of experienced researchers (PEGASUS)
Start date: Feb 1, 2012, End date: Jul 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) supports basic research in all scientific domains through a range of funding instruments tailored to the needs of researchers at different stages in their careers. With support from the European Commission, the FWO intends to increase the internationalisation of research activities in Flanders and contribute to the implementation of the ERA vision by setting up a programme, co-funded by Marie Curie Actions, called PEGASUS, giving wings to your career. The programme will attract talented experienced researchers to Flanders, not only to participate in research but also to transfer knowledge and contribute substantially to their career development. The PEGASUS programme will be targeted on experienced researchers working abroad and expand the existing fellowship programme of the FWO. Applicants can be of any nationality and any scientific background. Selected fellows will be offered the same employment conditions as resident researchers and will be provided with excellent career development and training opportunities, all in line with the European Charter and Code. The PEGASUS programme will include a 1-year and 3-year incoming fellowship scheme. The 1-year scheme is to replace the existing visiting postdoctoral fellowship programme of the FWO and will raise the standards of this programme with respect to selection procedures and appointment conditions of the fellows. The 3-year scheme intends to open up and expand the current fellowship programme of the FWO to attract a larger number of experienced researchers to Flanders. The main aim of the co-funded PEGASUS programme is to realise an effective knowledge transfer between incoming fellows and resident researchers, creating future networking opportunities and enhancing the career development and perspectives of the fellow, to the benefit of both the incoming fellow and the research community in Flanders and Europe.
