PROJECT
FINISHED
The aim of this project firmly relates to the long-term Strategic plan of the organization participating in the project, i.e. Panevezys District Velzys Gymnasium, as it indicates the aspiration to develop the spheres of implementing languages and the use of information technologies in the educational process. While implementing the project it was sought to develop the teachers’ competencies, to improve the methods of teaching, to spread the innovations and to introduce with the new ways of organizing both teaching and learning.
The participant of this project is a foreign language teacher, who teaches English and Italian as a second language. The participant has experience in some other European projects, such as Erasmus exchange project for students, or the exchange program which was organized by the University of Szeged (Hungary). The participant was selected based on these criteria: she has the lowest type of teachers' qualification; has a less than 2 years of experience working for the gymnasium; presented a strong motivation for participating in the project and a clear vision for the project implementation.
This European development plan was comprised of 3 stages, each of them concentrating on a different sphere, with the different competences to be gained and different activities to be carried out.
The stage of the employment of new methods of teaching. During the implementation of this stage the project participant was concentrating on the newest methodologies of language teaching. She gained knowledge and experience in the course called “Transferable Skills” which was organized by the Lewis School of English (Southampton, United Kingdom). Thanks to the ideas and knowledge gained in this course a unique classroom for English language instruction was developed in the gymnasium. Moreover, some specific methods for teaching languages were created and purified. These have a particular advantage to new-coming teachers, as well as in the case of substitution. But most importantly, they ensure the stable observance of the instructional program and the originality of the teaching style found only in this gymnasium.
The stage of the development of the linguistic competence was aimed at gaining new knowledge in the field of linguistics. Thus the linguistic competence was firstly developed while gaining knowledge and skills in the professional development course „Language, Life and Culture in the UK Today“ which was organized by the Lake School of English (Oxford,United Kingdom). What is more, 2 eTwinning projects – InstaEurope and iChallenge – were created while implementing this stage of the project activities. The aim of these eTwinning projects is to get acquainted with the new cultures, foreign languages and traditions; to encourage students’ participation in the collaboration and exchange projects in order to expand internationalization, cultural exchange and multilingualism.
The stage of organizing the process of teaching and learning aims at deepening the knowledge of the possibilities of application of smart technologies while organizing the process of teaching and learning. The implementation of this stage had begun with the participation in the “T-S-P into English” courses organized by Euneos (Benalmadena, Spain). Based on the knowledge and experience gained during the course the model of organizing smart teaching and learning was created in the gymnasium, which led to the wider interest about the possibilities of the implementation of technologies in the process of teaching and learning, as well as it encouraged students’ creativity, critical thinking and motivation for learning. It also contributed to the development of culture of the proper usage of smart technologies for the purpose of teaching and learning.
During the implementation of the project the ideas and the experience were shared through the open lessons and seminars. Moreover, the participant of the project had conducted several courses and presented the activities and the results of the project in two national conferences as well as in international events. Furthermore, some visits were organized and the communication and cooperation was carried out through the means of emails and social networks, such as Facebook.
