PeaceWorks' Volunteer Programme 2016/2017
Start date: May 16, 2016, End date: May 15, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “PeaceWorks' Volunteer Programme 2016/2017” will be fulfilled in a context where Europe and its respective member countries are in economic and social hardship, where youth is struggling in the labour market. The situation increases risks of intolerance and a growing distance between the people of the European community. The overall objective of the project is to promote active citizenship of youth, to increase their competences and international experience of the volunteers and to enhance mutual understanding through exchanges. There will be 6 volunteers participating in the project, coming from the countries: Portugal, Germany, Hungary and the Czech Republic. They will all be in Sweden, at two different hosting organisations, for 12 months each. Four of the volunteers will be at Staffansgården Camphill in Delsbo, a community center for mentally disabled adults, where they will provide support to the different workshops and gain practical knowledge of activities such as bakery, wood work, weaving and farming. Two volunteers will be at Mullsjö Folk High school, an adult and non-formal education school, where they will support the different activities, such as the running of a fair trade shop and different social/cultural events of the school. The volunteers will be supported both by PeaceWorks and their respective mentors in the different organisations. PeaceWorks is the main responsible for the coordination of the project. The envisaged results and impact of the project is to strengthen and empower the volunteers, increase their self-confidence, give them experiences useful in future life while also improving the actions of the organisations in the Swedish civil society. In the long run, PeaceWorks regards the non-formal learning and the intercultural meetings to help build a more cohesive Europe, with an active youth, where the individual and organisational participants all strive for increased tolerance and mutual solidarity.
