From 19th until 27th of July 2014 seven young people and one female tutor of the Spanish village Horta de Sant Joan will come to Offenbach. The first contact between the young people of this Catalan village and the German city happened in 1999 in Spain and last year young people from Offenbach were in Horta de Sant Joan to find out their common interests and their differences in the way of living in the countryside. For the exchange in the summer 2014 the young people chose the subject art. Ten young people from Offenbach will participate at the exchange. They are pupils or trainees. The young people from Spain are students or unemployed. In the village of Horta de Sant Joan exists a deep interest in art caused by an active policy of culture and the presence of some international well known artists. Offenbach has a University of Art and Design and an active scene of culture and art. The title of the actual exchange is: “pARTner – creative, common, boundless”. Contacts with artists and the work with temporary art in museums, galleries and in the cityscape are planned. Here especially the opening of the view for creative possibilities of expression and the different ways of living is important. The participation in a mobile art-project for children and young people in a quarter of Offenbach shall stimulate the Spanish young people to a similar activity in their village. Art is able to connect young people, it can be a language, which leads to contact, in spite of still existing language problems. In the active work with art they can learn to express their feelings and dreams. The step from the pure watching to an own activity will be done in a common production of a big graffiti on the wall of a youth center. During a workshop in 4 parts under the instruction of two well known conductors arises a 4 x 8 m wall painting. Theme, motives and formation of the painting will be planned and discussed in the beginning. These activities will be framed by common actions of sports and leisure, plus excursions, for example a day trip to the river Rhine. The competences of the young people in speech and other communications shall improve in this exchange. For commonalities in the European context the young people of both countries shall discover new aspects, based on new found ideas. They shall discover art as a possibility to express themselves, to get affirmation and self-affirmation, and to get in connection with others. After the exchange the Spanish and the German young people shall get active in their community, getting part of cultural projects or to support the art-activities of other children and young people. Concerning the aspect of an open European employment market the Spanish young people get impressions about the conditions and perspectives of the possibilities of working abroad.
