ParticipACTION: EVS promoting child and youth participation
Start date: Dec 1, 2012,
This individual EVS project involves a volunteer from Germany spending nine months in Brussels volunteering on a project promoting the participation of children and young people at both local and international levels. The main theme of the EVS is promoting participation, particularly through connecting local groups to others in Europe. Objectives: • To promote participation of young people and European citizenship through connecting IFM-SEI more effectively with local groups in Belgium• To provide the opportunity for a young volunteer to develop her competencies over a sustained period of volunteering in IFM-SEI• To enhance the quality of European educational work through the input of a European volunteer• To enhance communication and raise awareness of YiA and EVS She will work with local groups of children and young people as well as young volunteers spread throughout Europe aiming to connect the local and European levels. She will particularly focus on three areas:1) Connecting local falcons to IFM-SEI. She will work with children on child participation, using peer education to empower them and connect them to IFM’s ‘ParticipACTION’ project on improving the participation of children in decision-making processes across Europe. 2) Working with young European volunteers to contribute to the development and running of European seminars3) Contributing to the development of information and communication strategies in IFM-SEI, particularly continuing the initiative of our current EVS volunteer to develop a young women’s newsletter and spreading information about Youth in Action. In each of these fields the volunteer will be fully supported by office staff who will take the main lead.
