Base of 'pART of society' is the experience that culture – visual arts, music, cinema, photography, literature etc. – connects young people from different countries. It is a very appropriate medium to encourage communication, exchange of views and basis for understanding. Kultur Aktiv used this within the EVS project. The two volunteers from Ukraine and Poland were in the organisation for 12 months active. They were in engaged in preparing and conducting cultural projects which Kultur Aktiv realises locally or in Eastern Europe. 'Transkaukazja' presented contemporary Caucasian arts and culture in Ukraine, Poland, Germany and other European countries. A local highlight was the 'Cargo Gallery', a converted barge, where we presented Czech-German culture and organized networking for local creative artists. Also we had exhibitions in our own art gallery, film presentations, concerts and readings. Through the work the volunteers got the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills in preparing and running cultural events. An other focus was to learn about new media and websites and their creative use in cultural and organisational work. The goal was to strength, based on art, the European understanding. In addition, the volunteers were encouraged to become active part of society and to take over responsibility.
