"Palmeros in Lithuania 2015" is a mobility project of vocational students (KA1) framed within the Erasmus + program. This project involves the movement of a group of 30 students from IES Virgen de Las Nieves to companies in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, to carry out their Training in Work Places for a month.
IES Virgen de Las Nieves is a public secondary school, certified in ISO 9001, where the Compulsory Secondary Education, Bachillerato and Vocational Training, Intermediate and High Level of several professional families are taught. It is located in La Palma, a non-capital island of the Canary Islands archipelago, from where the access to the peninsula and elsewhere in Europe is complicated. Our students belong to a medium-low socioeconomic status, which added to the distance, makes very few of them have the opportunity to enjoy the personal and professional enrichment of travelling and learning about other cultures.
In this mobility students who are enrolled during the 2015-16 academic year at the training courses that are taught in our center may participate:
· CFGM Cooking and Gastronomy
· CFGM Restaurant Service
· CFGM Bodywork
· CFGM Electrical and Automatic Installations
· CFGM Administrative Management
Participants will be chosen through a rigorous selection and will be trained to carry out the proposed activities with responsibility and autonomy.
In order to develop this project, IES Virgen de Las Nieves has a collaborating partner, EU-Trade, an international organization which has extensive experience in international mobility actions under the new Erasmus + program and which will act as our host organization.
The city chosen for the mobility is the capital and main economic center of Lithuania, one of the largest financial centers in the Baltic States. It is home to the Lithuanian central administration and it is also home to the largest centers of political, economic, social and cultural interest of the country.
This project aims to achieve the following objectives:
- To ensure that the population of the island of La Palma, who lives in a remote region, acquire a greater awareness of the European project and the values of the EU. (European dimension).
- To train students in a different business environment. (Vocational dimension).
- To improve the foreign language competence of students in vocational training. (Linguistic dimension).
- To give students the opportunity to experience other cultures and develop skills such as autonomy, maturity, self-empowerment, self-esteem, entrepreneurship, etc. (Cultural and personal dimension).
This project will have an effect on the long-term development of the island of La Palma, since the students can extrapolate the acquired knowledge and experience to the insular business sector on their return. International contact networks will be built and it will be encouraged the development of an awareness of citizenship and European identity. Moreover, with this mobility IES Virgen de Las Nieves will improve its management skills and internationalization strategies, which will help to continue with the development of future European programs.
