Paideia: Formação de Competências em Contexto Educativo
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Basic School Francisco Ferreira Drummond is a recent school, serving a rural community in Terceira Island, Azores and welcomes pupils from K-9 - pre-school to 9th grade. Enclosed in a double periphery - towards Europe and in our own island - the School is trying to redefine its place within the Azores educational landscape, by investing in activities able to ensure its educational project an european dimension and simultaneously granting innovative educational practices towards its pupils and collaborative learning and peer mentoring activities towards its teachers. In order to achieve that, the School has designed an european development plan centered in the acquisition and reinforcement of leadership educational competences and skills, focused in learning for achievement and success; in the acquisition and reinforcement of organizational competences and skills, allocated, for the time being, in foreign language performances of its teachers, in the articulation among the three levels of basic schooling and in international educational contacts; in the acquisition and reinforcement of educational competences and skills by its teachers, which, for the time being, were allocated to the teaching of foreign languages, the experimental teaching of science and vocational guidance; and in the acquisition and reinforcement of collaborative organizational assessment competences and skills that will be able to produce a permanent and enlightned feedback to the leadership about the decisions made.To execute this plan, the School has decided to create innovation teams, peering together one teacher of each level of schooling (3) and challenging the innovation teams yet to be built to engage in mobility activities across Europe schools; to that purpose, the School has to use and enlarge the strategic partnership network across Europe as well; the School further decided to transform the mobility activities acquired competences and skills in context centered in-service teacher training events, taking advantage of the Schools' situation as an in-service teacher training provider in the regional educational system. To this plan the School called the Paideia project.Several mobility activities were, therefore, planned, both job-shadowing and course attending activities, which meet the needs the school wants to overcome; and we also envisage, concerning organizational assessment, the colaboration of Prof. Xavier Xavarría, at the Open University of Catalonia. The School hopes the mobility activities foreseen in Paideia project and the device that will structure its implementation might arise an innovational trend among teachers in the School, simultaneously hosting a significant organizational change, a new and motivating ethos in the School and better assessments in class. The School hopes still the Paideia project to permanently contribute to reshaping the School's place in the regional educational landscape.
