Outdoor Plus was a Training Course developed in the frame of the KA1 (Mobility of youth workers) of the Erasmus Plus to be hosted from Italian SEYF.
The TC hosted 16 youth workers and youth leaders, a facilitator and a trainer from 8 different EU youth organizations (Bulgaria, Poland, Italy, Malta, Romania, Spain, Greece and France) and each organization sent 2 participants (youth leaders and youth workers).
The TC hosted in Italy (Caprarica di Lecce) from 6th to 11th november 2014, for 5 days of activities.
The main theme of the training was education through outdoor and experiential activites. The main objective of the training was the promotion of non-formal education through experience/outdoor education as a powerful method for a permament learning, by
gathering youth workers Europe and strengthening their competences to develop and deliver educational programmes, so that the trainees became able to better understand and implement youth projects through the application of new models of non formal education. The training empowered participants to actively work on outdoor education, through a specific cycle of activites centred on outdoor activites that foster the basic cultural and personal knowledge of participants, reinforce their sense of team and their trust with one another and help them to learn how to deal with cooperative problem solving attitudes.
The objectives followed were:
- to develop solidarity and promote tolerance among young people in order to foster social cohesion in the EU;
- to contribute to develope the quality of support systems for youth activities and the capabilities of civil society organisations in the
youth field;
- to promotes European cooperation in the youth field;
- to strengthen the active participation of young people trhough an improvement of non formal education based on outdoor
activities;
- To promote Erasmus Plus Programme and to improve the quality of E+ projects and their inclusion power through the ‘learn to learn’ and 'team building' approach;
The whole TC was based on non-formal education approach and learning by doing methodologies, in order to let the participants learn from experience and reflection, thanks to deep and peer-to-peer de briefing session and through the use of different methods such as: small/big group work, role plays, simulation exercises, debates, theoretical input and practical work, case studies on participatory activities, etc. The Kolb cycle was applied to the whole process of the TC in order to let the participants realize what, how and why they have learnt.
