The main idea of this project is to develop knowledge and understanding among young people of the diversity of European cultures through music. We believe that young people gain self confidence in expressing themselves and integrate their personality into social life better when they are involved in music. Music is the shared language that breaks down prejudice and bias. The objective of our project mainly concerns with the idea of making people aware of this shared language as a means of getting to know each other, helping young people acquire the basic life skills and competences necessary for their personal development for future employment and for active European citizenship.First, we will focus on sharing our own cultures through each country's blogs and our common website, through activities which will be held during the first year of exchanges. Then, we will start focusing on the two pillars of our project which are folk music and pop rock music. Each country will share its musical heritage through different activities. Also, we aim to focus on pop rock music in the decades from 1950s to 2000s in the UK and in the USA and their reflection in our own history and social life. Through the activities our pupils will be able to discover the connection between folk music and popular music in the global sense. Project meetings will be held in each country with secondary students aged 14-17, many of whom come from disadvantaged families with little income. They will share the common language, English, through music and they will have the chance to spread their voices across Europe.
