The shared House of Europe has long been a metaphor for the European idea. A shared house which is built together but leaves room for individual design for its different cultures. The project "Our House of Europe" aims at familiarising socially disadvantaged youths with the European idea. Especially in socially disadvantaged groups, Europe is an abstract construct with which they have little to do. Many of the youths have never been abroad and, thus, never had the chance to discover another culture which has an impact on their attitude towards the European Union. Furthermore, many of the youths have learning disabilities which makes their access to information about the European Union more diffcult as the news and information brochurse are often too complex for them.
Through the project the young people are goign tackle Europe - its history, presence and future. Special emphasis will be put on European cultures, intercultural competences and European politics.
The paticipatory visiualisation of European intregration will be supported by a role play in which the participants will simulate negotiations in the European Council in order to experience how European politcs and negotiations work. This way socially disadvantanged and learning disabled youths receive access to the House of Europe.
