Our digital science lab
Our digital science lab
Start date: Sep 1, 2014,
End date: Aug 31, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
Context/background of project:
Taking into consideration the constant problems with learning Science subjects, using the practical knowledge and skills from the area of Biology, Physics, Geography, Chemistry, poor exam results in the presented above subjects and the demand for the science-oriented students and graduates of science studies, high level of unemployment in our local areas we have decided to prepare the project “Our Digital Science Lab”.
Objectives of the project:
The project “Our Digital Science Lab” is aimed at developing key competences in the areas of Biology, Geography, Chemistry, Physics and foreign languages, using mathematical methods and digital tools. What is more, the students participating the project will have the opportunity to broaden their foreign language skills and digital competences. Our teachers’ experience will be the base for preparing new and interesting proposals (experiments, trips, active method lessons, local guides).
Number and profile of participants:
All students of our schools will participate in the activities organized during the project preparation, follow-up, implementation and dissemination. Some of the them will take active part in the mobilities (144 students).
The choice of the students taking part in mobilities will be based on equal opportunities for male (50 %) and female (50 %), language skills and the interests and competence in the Science subjects. Some of the project participants will have
economic, educational, geographical and social obstacles and demonstrate cultural differences.
Description of the activities:
1) Creating a Digital Science Lab – e-learning platform, which will be used as a main dissemination channel. It will include all the pedagogical materials for students and teachers, created throughout the project
2) Creating project website, containing a description of the project objectives, the partners, the activities and other important and up-to-date information
3) Creating Online Course and Educational Path
4) Preparing films, photographs, photoblog
5) Creating project brochures and leaflets
6) Organizing meetings with the project participants
7) Inviting local authorities and parents to school during important events of the project
8) Handing in the lesson scenarios to a school library and publishing them on project website and e-learning platform ”Digital Science Lab”
9) Showing the project products on special project exhibitions
10) Preparing films from the videoconferences
11) Preparing media publications
12) Organizing open lessons
13) Organizing open-air/ indoor actions/events, e.g. funny and entertaining happenings, the action of collecting electrowaste
14) Organizing Science and Foreign Language Competitions for students of local schools
15) Organizing Science Days
16) Sending e-mail messages addressed to students, parents, teachers of our and local/regional schools, key stakeholders, local educational institutions and local authorities
17) Distributing the pedagogical materials prepared throughout the project to local libraries and educational institutions
Methodology to be used in carrying out the project:
Working in groups. Using IT and digital tools. Using active methods and the method of micro and macro projects. Using distance learning. Using experiments, educational trips.
Short description of the results and impact:
We will create such outputs as:
• "Environmentally-friendly school - green programme"
• Educational Path accompanied with local guides
• Online Course
The materials created during the project will be available for the public in digital form, freely accessible through the Internet on e-learning platform “Digital Science Lab”
The results and the impact which are expected on the project’s completion:
• A strong motivation to learn Science and high level of competence in this area
• Acquiring by students a high level of knowledge referring to the issue of renewable energy, environmental problems and solutions
• Creating the valuable source of materials for students and teachers – Digital Science Lab, Online Course, Educational Path
• A high level of competence in English and Information Technology among students and teachers
Potential longer-term benefits:
Young people will acquire knowledge about Science, environment and renewable energy sources. They will get to know environmentally-friendly habits and ways of beahaviour. Consequently, they will be more conscious citizens of the planet.
We will exchange and share all the created teaching and learning materials between us and present them to the other schools and teachers, using online and digital.
We will use "Environmentally-friendly school - green programme" in planning future curricula of various subjects in our schools.
