OSI4SMEs - Oral Skills Improvement for SME's in Commerce

Unlike the majority of existing in-service training courses in communication skills, that tends to target highly-skilled staff, the project will develop a set of three self-study courses relating on oral communication skills, at introductory and advanced level for front-line staff in commercial SME's. The self-study courses will be developed in four languages (EL, FI, FR & EN). Project outcomes will comprise educational materials on DVD, a project website and mobile interface, a series of paper-based products (educational materials, needs analysis, validation report) and a course methodology. The DVDs will contain basic and advanced educational material to support the three developed courses, namely, "How to Speak Effectively to the Public", "How to Communicate with the Media" and "How to Communicate with the Client". Pilot exercises will be gender-balanced, to reflect the gender breakdown of SME front line staff, and course contents will be adjusted to address any gender differences. Both e-learning and class-based versions (40-hour course) of the materials and methodology will be produced to ensure their relevance to students in initial vocational training, (or continuing vocational training), SME front-line staff or the unemployed. The mobile interface will facilitate remote communication, via mobile phones, PDAs and other handheld devices. For maximum exploitation of the project results, an information campaign will be targeted at employees within SME's, managers of larger companies, VET training providers and academic researchers, and will make use of mailings, newsletters and website promotion. Three information days will also be hosted, addressing a wider audience, to include journalists and European RTD officials, with each partner further responsible for considering potential commercialisation at national level.
