OpenDock – Open and shared materials repository for e-learning in VET

Using Free and Open Source Software in the development of e-learning can provide higher quality, reduce costs and increase availability of platforms. But very few educational materials are available for use with these systems today. The OpenDock project wants to support the use of Open Content (a platform at which individuals and institutions can share and adapt educational materials) in vocational education and training. The key actions of the project are creating a corpus of learning materials published under the Creative Commons license, with provision for IMS Learning Design, drawn from a range of different sectors of VET from different languages and cultures; establish a repository of learning resources, and building on current best practice and existing Open Source repository implementations and e-learning standards. All the partners will add materials to the repository in English and their local language. The effectiveness of the OpenDock solution is brought to the attention of the following target groups: e-learning providers, including the developers of learning materials, teachers and trainers, students and trainees who participate in learning facilitated by the e-learning materials stored n the repositories, managers and administrators with responsibilities for e-learning and SME managers. For disseminating the results of the project six principal dissemination channels will be used: the project web site, mailing lists, other web sites, participation and presentations at conferences, meetings and seminars, journal articles and papers, the circulation of products. Also the partnerships experience and network with user groups and professional associations will be a key factor in valorisation.
