The core idea of the next EVS-project "Open new doors 2015-16" in Haus am Maiberg, center for civic education in Heppenheim Germany, is the active participation of the volonteer in our non-formal education and international youth work. In the 12 months of the project the volonteer will be a member of the educational staff of the center. He or she will take part in planning the contents and organizational frames of projects of citizenship youth education and international youth encounters with the venue in Heppenheim or in a foreign country. Haus am maiberg is cooperating in this evs-project with the polish association Jeden Swiat. The voluntary service should offer space to discover the own european identity and to meet people from a diversity of different backgrounds. The volunteer will be involved in all approx. 15 international exchange programmes with young people and experts in youth work. He or she will be encouraged to contribute her social, creative and management skills. In the same time the participation in different teams of facilitators will give the volunteer the opportunity to strengthen skills and to develop the personality. The volunteer will work more and more independently and will take more and more responsibility for taks like moderation. The volunteer is offered the possibility to work also in other fields of Haus am Maiberg educational work. He or she is involved in the social networking of the center. The volunteer will live in a flat located in the center. He or she will have the opportunity to attend language classes. The volunteer is supported by a mentor concerning work and a tutor concerning personal affairs. The volunteer will open new doors in europe when traveling and meeting young people from different social groups and discussing recent social and political issues that are crucial political challenges like dicrimination, racisms, identiy-making, European integration. Non-formal education is a way to deal with these issues by facilitating reflection and interaction among participants.
