Open MIC for Young Entrepreneurs, Erasmus+
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

'Open MIC for Young Entrepreneurs, Erasmus+' 19th-26th of July, 2015 (County Wicklow/ Dublin City) Having formal education in current labour market doesn't guaranty employment. People require to have a full set of social skills and creative approach to stand a chance of getting fulfilling employment position or/and to take on rewording road of self-employment by creating job opportunities for themselves. We believe that developing youth entrepreneurship skill is a way to start addressing youth employment issues and examining current labour market. The increase of social enterprises over the period of recession shows that people became more creative and more thoughtful about the needs of others during the difficult times. The main objective of an 'Open MIC for Young Entrepreneurs, Erasmus+' seminar was to explore the concept of youth entrepreneurship and to exam ideas of social enterprises by using group knowledge as the main recourse, Erasmus+ programme as a frame work and entrepreneurship skills as a ground stones. During this seminar we defined the concepts of youth entrepreneurship and social enterprises; explored possibilities that Erasmus+ offers for young entrepreneurs and social enterprises; thus analysed which parts in Erasmus+ supports organizations who are working/ intending to work with young entrepreneurs programs; worked on developing social entrepreneurship skills; shared good practice examples of being a young entrepreneur and experiences of working with young entrepreneurs; explored strategies of successful social enterprises; collected experiences, wisdom and strengths of participants and their organizations; stimulated creative thinking and encouraged future collaborations and networks between participating organizations. 'Open MIC' hosted 33 people from Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Poland, Netherlands and UK. The seminar took place in 2 different locations. The first 5 days we spend in Co. Wicklow, Kippure Estate surrounded by Wicklow Mountains and for the second half of the event we moved to busy Dublin City Centre. By having 2 different seminar locations we offered participants an experience of both- rural country site and busy city lives of Ireland. An 'Open MIC' seminar program consisted of social entrepreneurship ideas and experience shares during an 'Open MIC' sessions; daily activities, such as spaces for networking, reflections and evaluations; guest workshops and successful social enterprise visit and topic/ theme based inputs by trainers. We believe that by taking part in an 'Open MIC' seminar participants deepened their knowledge of youth entrepreneurship and social enterprises concepts and got to know about the possibilities that Erasmus+ program offers to young entrepreneurs and to social enterprises. Thus received practical tools and developed skills needed to become and to work with youth entrepreneurship; and analysed good practice examples of entrepreneurship and successful social enterprises in Ireland and Europe. We believe that an 'Open MIC' was an opportunity to further develop skills of self-awareness, confidence build, presentation and public speaking, oral/ written communication, conflict resolution and decision making, critical thinking, networking and self-expression through English. After we evaluated an ?Open MIC? seminar, the main adjectives that participants used to describe their experience were: Inspiration, Motivation and Friendship. We hope that many great social entrepreneurship ideas are being realised around Europe, as a result of an ?Open MIC?!
