PROJECT
FINISHED
The project “Open Doors” was a bilateral European Voluntary Service project between sending and coordinating organization from Estonia and hosting organization from Jordan.
The objectives of project were:
• To enhance youth mobility by providing European Voluntary Service in another country;
• To encourage intercultural dialogue between youth from Europe and Middle East;
• To develop cooperation between organizations from Middle East and Europe;
• To develop youth and children English language skills.
During the project, WE Center in Jordan hosted two volunteers from Estonia – one for 6 months and one for 2,5 months – from September 2015 till March 2016. Volunteers worked in Palestinian refugee camp (near Jerash) and in Sahab and free time activities for children. One volunteer also lead activities for deaf kids in Amman.
Refugee camps and Sahab are very conservative and are not exposed to Western culture therefore it is expected that daily volunteers' activities encouraged intercultural dialogue in local community.
Volunteers promoted intercultural dialogue in informal communication with their peers and family in Estonia and in Jordan.
