FINISHED
Project "Olympic Education - connecting youth" will be carried out in Estonia from 4th until 9th of July, 2016. The activities of the project will take place in three locations: Rocal al Mare Open Air Museum in Tallinn, Estonian Sports Museum in Tartu and Sulbi Sports Centre in Võrumaa The aim of the project is to promote inter-cultural dialogue using sport as the easiest international language. We will use the upcoming Rio Olympic Games topic as an attractive educational tool to start the debate about principal values, like tolerance, mutual understanding, friendship, cultural diversity, respect etc. Considering the current difficult situation in Europe, the main goal is to rise cultural awareness, openness and tolerance in the youth by sharing international experiences. Objectives of the project are to encourage youth to discuss about values in sport and to introduce them the principles of Olympism; to provide practical social and cultural experience; to promote participants personal development and raise their social activity; to introduce volunteering possibilities and to empower the participants; to give participants the experiences in the multicultural team spirit and to share their competence and insight with others.Partners of the project are Estonian Olympic Academy, Finnish Olympic Academy and Latvian Olympic Academy. Participants of the session will be from three different partner countries - Estonia, Finland and Latvia. Participants of the project will be between 16 to 19 years of age, and adult group leaders. There will be 8 participants + 1 group leader from each partner organization. Wide range of participants can apply to the session (including participants with fewer opportunities and minorities of participating countries). Participants should have interest in self promotion through sportive activities, though no previous skills in sports are required. The language of the session is English.Project will be carried out through different activities like lectures, presentations, discussions, sport activities, team tasks, workshops, reflections etc, whereas both formal and non-formal methods will be used. As a result of the project, participants will gain knowledge about values in sport and understand the principle of Olympism; will benefit of practical social and cultural experience; will raise their social activity and experience personal development; will learn more about volunteering possibilities and be empowered; and will enrich their lives and become active citizenships. Also, we will launch a video about the experience that could be used for educational and promotional purposes. As an impact of the project, the ideas of Olympism and its' core values will be spread and through that we will guide young people to become active healthy citizens with an open-minded view on the world. For longer term benefits our focus regarding the participants is to offer them an educating, active and enriching experience through which young people will gain new inter-cultural experiences to live a more active, healthy, tolerant and meaningful life. As for the participating organizations, this is a perfect option to increase communication, change good practices and make path for future collaborations.
