OLYMPIA - e-Learning Environment in Sports Training

The OLYMPIA project will design and implement tools and methodologies for continuous learning for those employed in the sports industry. The project will focus upon two areas in particular, namely, the management of sports facilities and the organisation of sports events. An initial analysis will be undergone to identify existing learning patterns and any potentially complementary learning tools and beyond this, outline training methods and actual training contents will be both designed and introduced. The partnership will further develop appropriate e-learning tools to host actual training content, leading to piloting of the distance training materials within the industry. Both piloting and eventual interactive distance training is planned via telematic (web) means and via real-time satellite learning for the 'training of trainers' in the two chosen sectors. Final training materials will be developed in both EN and all partner languages (ES, EL, FR, IT, NL & RO) and will be hosted electronically via a dedicated project website.Beyond the development of materials, the project will further establish a European Network of Sports Management Professionals able to influence future industry training developments and through this network will consult with the appropriate bodies responsible for major, future international sporting events (Olympics 2004 & 2006, Commonwealth Games 2002).Awareness raising of the results and achievements of the project is planned through the hosting of a series of national and transnational seminars and through the dissemination of results to existing partner networks (to include the European Network of Sports Sciences, the European Observatory of Sports Education and Sports for All).
