The aim of the project is to create innovative materials in high-potential areas for cross-border companies.To do so, a cross-border innovation hub for surface protection based on the SOL-GEL technology was established.The SOL-GEL process involves the transition, through a set of chemical reactions, of a solution system from a liquid «sol» into a solid «gel» phase, generally at room temperature. The applications of this process are numerous: optics (scratch-resistant/proof glasses, UV, ...), the automotive sector (windshield, rear view mirror), construction (thermal and sound insulation) and engineering (corrosion-resistance). From a research point of view, the technique is well developed, but industrial applications are still rare.
