The significance and necessity of education for individuals has been an acknowledged truth in today’s world. The fact that students leaving school at the age of compulsory education has stil been regarded as a common problem. This problem means that individuals who cannot even complete compulsory education individually at later stages in their lives have lesser opportunities of benefiting from education, the limitedness of opportunities to develop their labour skills which therefore, leads to lifelong deprivations and poverty. In terms of our country and society, this also brings seious results such as the continuation of economical loses and all societal loses that are associated with not having good education throughout the individual’s life. In this sense, our project aims to propose solution alternatives for the diagnosis of reasons of early school leaving and the prevention of this problem. The studies conducted on school absenteeism have indicated that absenteeism records of students in primary schools shown arising trend in recent years. While the rate of counrtywide absenteeism in primary schools in 2007 was 3.2% , it reached to the rate of 5.8% after 2011. It is indicated that this rate has reached at about 7 % recently. The studies conducted in our school have also shown that either certain intervals or continually students with absence have been observed almost every class. It is seen that 14 second graders, 12 third graders and 28 fourth graders have absence problems and are among the risky group of early school leaving.Additionaly, there are 53 students who do not attend the school and our project aims to encourage attendance of these students to the school.Among the proposed goals the most essential one is to realizce the development of the appropriate infrastructure to take preventive measures by diagnosing existing or possible early school leaving.Within this scope, the first of the three courses to be held in Malta will be about the decrease in early school leaving with the implementation of ‘Adaptation and Learning-Classroom Management and Mediation Technique’ and 7 personnels in our staff intend to participate in this course. The second course to be held in Holland will be about ‘ The ways of motivation to encourage students to complete compulsory education.’ The headline of the course will be ‘ Innovative learning and teaching methods for prevention of early school leaving in lifelong learning society.’ and 7 personnels intend to participate in this course. The third to be held in Italy will be about ‘Establishing sentimental relations for the prevention of early school leaving’ and 7 personnels intend to participate in this course. In our project activities, a practical , interactive, dynamic methodology which encourages active involvement of participants will be used within the light of concrete data. The data obtained theoretically will be backed up pactical works throughout the whole stages of activies. The staff which will attend the project have bachelor’s degrees and have professional experience over five years. In the previous years within the life-long learning program the teachers who have taken part in the Comenius projects are commonly homeroom teachers and because they spend long time with their students, there is a strong bond with them. When a drop out situation of a student occurs teachers get effected professionally and personally because they build an emotional tie with them. Due to this reason they give special importance to the prevention of school drop outs which is one of the priorities of European Council and believe the necessity and importance of the matter. With the project, communication and empathy of our staff will improve, looking to situations from different perspectives will help them to gain problem solving skills and they will also learn skills about new approaches while learning and teaching. The staff that will participate will have better management skills, and will bring an attractive atmosphere for the students. They will also have better group working skills. With our project and with the knowledge and experience of our staff our school will be more attractive, and students will the need the feel for education. Our short term goals will be to solve absence problems and have the students return back to their schools, our long term goals will be to increase the education levels of the returning students and have them to catch up with the other students.Improving our students’ academic knowledge and social successes, having them to search and question, to have them to express themselves, to have them be disposed to learning and researching will help them to be a member of the society.
