OJT GENE BANK - Development Project to Create a Tacit Information Database for Industry.

OJT GENE BANK will develop an interactive, on-the-job training bank of tacit knowledge for the development and maintenance of work safety and occupational health practices in the metal industry. The project will collect, develop and maintain specialist 'tacit information' (non-documented information on work practice held normally in the memory of individual workers) in digital form, covering issues such as safe working habits and the use of working tools and protective equipment. Additional information will be held on the ways in which such information can be used in order to improve work safety and occupational health in the workplace.Through modern search programme technology, the application is intended to be easily accessible, even for those unfamiliar with modern technologies or ICT, it is planned that individual employees at all levels will have the ability to load their own information (data) onto the system for the benefit of other users. The information will be developed to both contribute to existing on-the-job training and for incorporation into courses of vocational training, at all levels. Users will have access to the data (in graphic, audio and text form) through both on-site intranet and internet application in all partner languages (FI, IT, DE & DA). Further piloting of the tool will be undergone with a sample group of 250 users across the partner countries. In addition to the actual data tool, a further 'demonstration and learning package' will be developed for use in instructing both users and professionals on the potential use of the OJT GENE BANK training tool.Dissemination is planned through existing partner networks and via the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work in addition to the hosting of a series of workshops, seminars and a final international conference.
