Ökad måluppfyllelse och internationell kompetensutveckling genom kulturutbyten
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project aims to broadly develop the skills of various categories of teachers at Karolinska Secondary School in Örebro. The aim is that our teachers will be better and more professional in their interaction with our students and through their insights, experience and skills also improve achievement of students. The students are always at the center of everything we do at Karolinska Secondary School and what we do in these various international activities, we do for our students. We want to involve the whole school in our international projects so that they become an integrated part in the education of our students. The use of digital media and ICT is continuously developing, which means that we constantly need to update our knowledge in this area and to share good practice with our colleagues. We want to strengthen the modern languages by increasing cultural understanding. In addition, we want to increase knowledge about the history of Europe in order to gain an understanding of how today's current events related to the story.Örebro Municipality and Karolinska Secondary School strives to work for a sustainable future through continuing education in social, cultural, economic and ecological sustainability. In cooperation with other countries in Europe, we can develop this area.Young people experience community and school as stressful, something we at Karolinska Secondary School take seriously. To help students find tools to manage their stress, we need teachers to be better at detecting and managing stress factors. We also want to inspire our students to pursue more outdoor activities and therefore we need to get new tips and ideas for activities that can appeal to today's youth.Through studies of curricula and syllabuses, as well as collaborations with various countries, we will be able to use European common reference framework, particularly in languages. Today's secondary school will in the near future meet many students from different cultural backgrounds and traumatic experiences. We therefore need to get better at creating meeting places for promoting integration and find the knowledge of how we meet these students in the best way. For the next academic year, the Social Science program, will mostly work with thematic studies of topical issues in Europe and the world. Training will provide teachers with a broader view of Europe's past and present. We will use a variety of methods: Study visits, teaching abroad, job shadowing, experience sharing, project collaboration, workshops, seminars and talks. And also attend courses in which our participants have the opportunity to meet teachers from other European countries and thus get even more outside input. In short term this strengthens each teacher in her/his commitment and teaching skills, whilst increasing the knowledge of Europe and the world. They also get the knowledge which they can directly transmit to the students. In the long term, we aim to increase achievement among our students; increase students' opportunities for mobility, based on increased international knowledge and experience. We strengthen the students in European Studies and emphasize the importance that Sweden is a part of the European Community. Our students gain:• Increased intercultural understanding• Tolerance towards others and entrenched democratic values• Solidarity with other people and vulnerable groups• Increased knowledge of global issues and challenges• Increased understanding of the community and their culture through reflection and greater self-awareness• Increased confidence in their own ability• Tools for Stress Management• Capacity to take more responsibility• Increased motivation through a reality-based learning• Improved language skills• Preparedness for future studies and work in other countries• International contacts and networks• Good social interaction in classes and teaching groups• Increased collaboration between students, and between students and teachersIn the longer term we also get more international cooperation projects and create different networks e.g. ICT and languages. This project involves 24 participants.
