Atios Integrated Public Center is located in a rural environment, in the province of A Coruña in northern Galicia. It has students at three educational stages: nursery, primary and compulsory secondary education to the age of 16. It is a centre that for years has worked hard to improve educational practice, innovate, develop and evaluate competencies. We are disengaging progressively from the sterile use of textbooks, building on ICT, dealing with diversity, and already have through a Teacher Training Plan four years of experience in developing these areas. We understand that training and sharing of experiences are key to the path towards excellence and also key both to transforming our centre and more widely identifying the educational needs of our system.Since starting our journey five years ago, we have become a reference center at regional level, a mirror into which many other centers and many teachers in Galicia look. For us, however, this is only the beginning of a long road along which we wish to progress. We are confident that the next step is internationalisation, the knowledge of and contact with other countries and education systems. Our Scottish partners visited Valdoviño courtesy of a different project organized by the Regional Centre for Training and Innovation Centre, with us serving as an example of good practice in education in Galicia. This visit marked definitely a before and after in our institution, as we can now see the possibilities that we would be able to develop with them through seeing firsthand their educational system and the way they work and evaluate. Through in-depth conversations with them during and after the visit, we are fully convinced that what they can offer responds perfectly to our needs and objectives, summarized as follows:· Develop a language immersion programme for the participating teachers at our center as we have bilingual sections and want to improve our communication skills, see different strategies work in the foreign language classroom and not only rely on visiting teachers to develop our pupils' language skills.· Know the Scottish educational model, in its general structure and at school level. We are very interested in seeing different methodological strategies, organization of space and time, material resources ... we will soak up ideas and experiences that then help us improve our own learning and teaching environment.· Although in the nursery and primary we have incorporated such ways of working to a great extent, we now need to experience and learn different ways of working in cross curricular and interdisciplinary ways in the secondary stage. We aim to research into active, innovative methodologies that are sensitive to different approaches in different classrooms and enable pupils to take responsibility for their own learning.· We are aware that in Scotland teachers use evaluative and assessment tools such as classroom and whole school portfolios which we are confident could be useful tools in our country. We would like to investigate them, see how they are used and observe the mechanisms of internal and external evaluation at their disposal.· A further goal is to integrate ICT effectively as a critical source of information, through developing learner and teacher competence and providing a resource for our students to be able to access independently.· We are very interested in the peer evaluation and mentoring systems our partner country makes extensive use of. We believe it is a method compatible with our centre and we would wish to develop its use here.· Our partners have extensive experience and a strong reputation internationally as "trainers of trainers". As participants in this project we have some experience in this field and thus we have high expectations for our capacity for improvement, due to our openness to change, innovation and cooperative working. This experience will certainly enrich us greatly and help us tremendously in all facets of our professional lives.Participants in this project are three teachers representing the three stages of education in our centre: all of us are project coordinators in various innovations within our establishment. All three also provide a wide variety of external training to other centers, in which we demonstrate and convey what we do in our daily practice. Thus, this training will not only have a direct impact on our own students and establishment, but also inform hundreds of Galician teachers and therefore their institutions at a structural level. The impact of this activity will contribute materially at different levels, reaching a large number of students and establishments, contributing to excellence and improving our education system in general. In addition, we propose these objectives as part of a long-term programme, understanding that this is another step in the long journey we wish to undertake. We intend to become a centre of excel
