One of the greatest problems in the world and our country is obesity. In today's world unhealthy diet is one of the most significant problems of the youth.Physical activities decreased substantially with the development of the technology especially with the introduction of computers into our lives. The introduction of social media and sharing networks and increase in technology addiction not only let people share their daily activities but also affect what people eat or drink. Now the young keep in touch with their peers through social media,do shopping through internet. Developing technology causes young people to lead a life deprived of routine and physical activities. We have decided to realize this project by benefitting from the applications in European countries in order to draw attention to ‘unhealthy nutrition, take a step to save the young from this problem,to produce solutions, after the Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoglu declared the year 2014 as‘Healthy Diet and Action Year'.
Obesity is defined as ‘Excessive or abnormal fat accumulation in the body to the extent that can damage the health' by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Nutrition isn't for suppressing the feelings of hunger, eating one's fill or eating whatever one wants. Nutrition is a behavior which needs to be done consciously,in order to take nutritional elements the body needs in adequate amounts and at appropriate times in order to increase the life quality and protect, develop the health.
According to the data of the Ministry of Health 25% of the men and 44% of the women are obese. And obesity in the young has reached 15 % which is a serious rate. When obesity is mentioned, the first thing remembered is visual image of the individual. I mean obesity firstly seems like an aesthetic issue and regarded so. But, regarding the obesity as simple as this means risking our future.
Today almost in all regions in the world, obesity increases, this situation not only affects the women and men but also the children especially the young.Obesity causes illnesses such as heart and vascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, some cancers, musculoskeletal diseases, to decrease the quality of life and deaths.
Prof. Dr. Azmi Özler says that in our country there are approximately 3.5 million people who have coronary heart disease and each year 120 thousand people are added.Özler said that ‘The greatest reason why this rate increases by 3 % each year is ‘unhealthy living habits. If you aren't walking for half an hour every day,if you haven't adopted sports as your lifestyle, your heart health is at risk.“Özler who stated that the young are under risk expressed that ‘In recent years poor eating habits have caused to increase cigarette consumption, sedentary lifestyle has caused coronary heart diseases be visible in young ages.”
The number of participants in our project is 30.The participants are 13-30 years old.For the youth leaders there isn't an age limit.
One of the priorities of our project which is among the priorities of Erasmus Youth Program is ‘To encourage outdoor activities and sports for the public'. Our aims are to contribute to young people have healthy, balanced diet and adopt sports as a habit and behavior,to discuss in detail the unhealthy diet and sedentary life issues of the youth and its effects with the reasons,to perform different activities with institutes and organizations working on unhealthy nutrition and especially obesity,to decrease health problems which could appear in the young in the future due to nutrition to minimum,to decrease the time spent in indoor environment (in front of TV and computer) and the time spent in sedentary to minimum,to motivate them for active life and do sports, to inform them about diseases which can appear due to inadequate and unbalanced nutrition,to enable them to become more extroverted, more active,to establish more social relationships by involving them in sports activities,to enable the young people with fewer opportunities to develop their self confidence by broadening their visions,to encourage the active citizenship of the young people on this issue by discussing unhealthy nutrition which is a global problem and to take place in this struggle against this problem as the conscious people of the Europe,to encourage tolerance by conducing the young people who will come together from different cultures for the same goal to cooperate in order to overcome the problem together,to enable them to discover the fact that the differences the young people have as they come from different cultures won't cause problems for them live together and work together by bringing them together from different countries, to enable the young people to know each other and decrease the effects of xenophobia and racism,to carry out different activities by developing our communication with other participants coming from other countries,to gain sustainable partnerships and to develop our entrepreneurship.
