The “Dumbrava Minunata("Wonderful Grove") Kindergarten” from Ploiesti City is a preschool institution which provides full-day care, education and training services for 220 children aged between 3 and 6 years. It includes 8 groups of children and it is served by 17 teachers.
Following The SWOT analysis that we performed before preparing our Institutional Development Plan for the period 2014-2016, we have identified new priorities in order to ensure the quality of teaching in our institution, the constant number of children, and to raise the status of our kindergarten to that of European Kindergarten. One of the priorities is to improve the curriculum by diversifying the educational offer and by organizing optional activities, named "Clubs", with our own means. Currently these optional activities are taught by teachers and supported by parents. The teachers do not certainly have a methodical training necessary for carrying out activities with preschoolers. So, we want to facilitate the process of adaptation and learning of children and also to diminish the financial contributions of parents, providing them as varied and as attractive "Club" activities as possible, in which they may participate together. These fun and recreational activities are intended to identify, practice and enhance the native skills of children, providing child-centered education. Therefore, our six teachers who participate in mobility want to know, to become familiar with and to transfer the most innovative teaching methods in our kindergarten. They also want to exchange good practices and good ideas of organizing the indoor and outdoor educational space. They want to learn how to adapt teaching of mathematical and scientific knowledge, through experimental methods and techniques, (from concrete to intuitive), through practical experiments. They intend to acquire new contents of games, songs, dances and to learn how to adapt modern technology in the teaching-learning-assessment process. Also, by participating in activities of the training courses that we have chosen, we want to improve ourselves and our linguistic and intercultural knowledge, to gain a greater receptivity to European values and to the European, social and cultural dimension of education. Meetings with teachers from other European countries, communicating with them during their activities and future collaborations after the trainings will help us to develop and practice ICT skills.
The selection of teachers who participate in mobility was made according to each one’s training needs, each one’s desire and willingness to participate and implement what they learn in activities with children, but also each one’s language and ICT skills.
The priority was given to the very young teachers who have not graduated the Pedagogical High School and who have not studied in college the teaching methods of games, music and physical education; to preschool teachers with many years of experience and who believe that they tend to come into routine and to other teachers who are in the process of affirmation, proving a great desire for knowledge and training. By voting in the Teachers’ Council, we have selected six teachers who correspond to the selection criteria and who will participate in mobility in two different flows: 4 teachers in Netherlands, at a 7 days course and 2 teachers in Latvia at a 5 days course.
We estimate that the project activities will have an impact on: the teachers, the children and their parents, the institution and the community. Teachers will benefit of superior individual development, both professional and social, but also, cultural, intercultural and linguistic development. The teamwork will stimulate and enhance teachers’ intercultural skills, they will practice their English language and they will be opened and oriented to new knowledge. The children will be the main beneficiaries. They will attend with their parents weekly activities proposed by teachers in the "Clubs": "Curiosity Club" (science, math), "Fantasy and color Club" (plastic and practical skills), "Small Artists on the big stage Club "(music, dance, theater),"Sports, movement, health Club" (physical education). So, in this way, the teachers can discover and practice many children’ skills and their artistic skills. Preschoolers will be encouraged to participate in activities and their creativity, their self-confidence will be developed. The parents’ involvement in activities will help us to educate and determine them to respect the unit of kindergarten-family requirements and to understand the role of the kindergarten in the child’s formation. In the same time, our colleagues will share their new intercultural learning experiences with other colleagues and community members, and they will test new European teaching methodologies gained during the trainings, so that in time, we can raise our kindergarten standards to European standards.
