No Work and All Play
Start date: Jan 1, 2013,

There is an old prejudice that youth work is just fun. However, inside our network there is the experience that youth work can also tackle the challenges young people are meeting in EU society today, like youth unemployment. We have specific programmes that motivate early-school leavers to continue their education. Next to this many of our volunteers are young people who have a diploma, but cannot find work. Through their voluntary engagement inside our youth organisations they get an on-the-job training and acquire professional skills. Now, the European Commission’s ‘Youth Opportunities Initiative’ gives an incentive of mainstreaming these practices. The seminar ‘No work and All Play’ will focus on how the ‘Youth opportunities initiative’ can be leverage for youth organisations to increase employability of young people they are catering for. The programme will include sessions on the exchange of good practices, information on the actions of the ‘Youth Opportunities Initiative’, a comparative session on Voluntary Service and on-the-job training mobility programmes, and a presentation on the upcoming 'Erasmus for All programme'.“No work and all play?” is a 2-day seminar which brings together 11 unemployed young people (volunteers) and 11 staff (paid or volunteer) of 11 EU youth work organisations (AT, BE, CZ, DE, ES, IT, MT, PL,SK, SI, UK). The venue for this meeting is in Berlin (Germany).
