Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Jul 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Centro Italiano di Solidarietà of Rome (CeIS) is a non profit organisation founded in 1971. 2 EVS volunteers from Programme countries (Austria, France) will collaborate in youth and children activities for 8 months. Through non-formal education activities the project aims to re-integrate youngsters and children with social problems. The volunteers will be involved in: Raffaello Sanzio: a service opened in 2001 as a reception, support service for babies (0-36 months); for children (4-10 years) and young adolescents (11-13 years) with difficulties and for their family members (parents, grandparents). It provides the base for a range of projects developed with the local authorities designed for young people and their families. The volunteer will be involved in the elaboration of games and recreational activities for very young children and/or to support the children and adolescents with difficulties at school. The service is located in the centre of Rome. Gulliver, a service provided in various and different schools of Rome. The service is designed to work with young people to avoid early drop-out from school and to provide support to schools and teachers to identify and work with young people as a preventive measure to avoid the development of social problems. Staff include workers with different professional backgrounds: psychology, teaching, social work, and are specialised in work with teenagers. They operate in schools and other training institutes, in amusement arcades and at gathering places for youngsters. They use very often the “peer education” methodology. Volunteers will support the work of the staff. Headquarter is in Via Appia Nuova 1251 (Capannelle area). Mentore: is a "service" for adolescents and young people who have behavioural problems, may already have dropped out of school, may be using drugs or are at risk of social marginalisation. Mentore aims at supporting young people to achieve integration into a normal school context, to prepare for work or employment training and/or, if it is the case, to become drug free. It also provides assistance in study and in dealing with family relations. Specialised staff provides workshops in pottery, theatre, music, art, and various sports. A group of teachers support the psycho-pedagogic intervention. It works directly with families and schools In the recent years Mentore provides services for unaccompanied minors trying to help them in their integration process. Volunteers will be involved in all Mentore activities and will be asked to develop their own activity, if they feel like doing it, for the leisure time of the youths. The EVS volunteers will work separately in the different projects, but will be asked to work and act together to elaborate, develop and implement a common mixed activity in the area of minors which will include all the services and will involve their different skills and attitudes and that will be presented during a final event in the schools. All these services are linked by a common feature that is working with kids and youngsters with a difficult social background in order to involve them in therapeutic, educational and recreational activities and to give them a new life prospect.
