PROJECT
FINISHED
The idea for the project «German in a laboratory – why not?!» evolved from the fact that vocational teachers working in Zdravstveno učilište, a medical school located in Zagreb, realized that four years of vocational education do not offer enough chances for vocational training. At the same time, the German teacher noticed a drop in the students' interest in learning vocational German, which has experienced a reduction of its vocational vocabulary since the introduction of the secondary school state exam.
The 22 students participating in the project are future pharmacists, dental assistants, dental technicians and medical cosmeticians. As German language learners they would benefit from two weeks of vocational training in Frankfurt since they would have a chance to learn the language of their vocation. Germany was chosen due to the fact that the majority of Croatian medical workers desire employment in German-speaking countries. Additionally, it is our wish for our students to improve their practical skills and broaden their knowledge, as well as witness advanced working techniques and perfect their vocational German. Time spent doing vocational training abroad would help them in their future education and in finding employment. Students would also improve their social skills, which are of great importance for their future professional careers.
In order to complete this project, Zdravstveno učilište is prepared to carry out certain preparations, such as forming workshops for language and culture preparation and the creation of the Europass curriculum, ensuring transportation, providing insurance, preparing all necessary documents and promoting project results. Our partner in Frankfurt, the Croatian Union of Economy (Kroatische Wirtschaftsvereinigung e.V.), will organize a two-week vocational training in several companies in accordance with the work programme, as well as provide accommodation, local transportation and organize various socio-cultural events and participate in the promotion of the project.
It is expected that the participants in the mobility project will acquire new work techniques, become interested in new methods and the possibilities for their application in Croatia, gain additional motivation for further professional education, improve their vocational German, overcome their fear of speaking a foreign language, as well as increase their confidence and motivation for learning German and gaining new skills. Students will also become more tolerant towards other cultures and religions after living in a multicultural country. Through this project Zdravstveno učilište aims to become an organization more open for international cooperation and other projects and a desirable place of education for many new students. Additionally, the experience would help the school realize any further projects. Zdravstveno učilište would also be viewed as a desirable school offering possibilities for additional education, both vocational and language specific.
The project would have a long-lasting effect on current and future students because they would be able to learn from those who had completed their vocational training in Frankfurt, thus acquiring new methods and tehnologies and developing a desire to participate in projects like this one. Both language learners and their parents would see the benefits of learning German and become more motivated. In addition to this, English language learners would have a chance to see the advantages of completing vocational training abroad.
