Newbury House - Mayfield Arts
Start date: Feb 1, 2011,
This project has been proposed by a group of young people aged between 15 years and 18 years. Some of them have been enagaging in arts programmes here in the centre for over 3 years. In the early days, this group was a very difficult group to work with. There were lots of behavioural issues and factors that affected the group externally that had to be dealt with internally within the group. However, despite our ups and downs this group always remained exptremely commited. Since the initial beginnings, this group has developed in many ways. As a group we have worked out a framework for us to work within that is very productive and creative. Structure is very important to this group as is consistency. We have all learned a lot together and there is a huge element of respect and trust within the group. Over the last year the group have achieved a lot. They have matured and developed personally. They have been open to experimenting with lots of new creative mediums such as screen printing, film, pyography etc. They have presented their work at exhibitions and seminars. This is something they reflect on very positively. New members have joined the group recently and have added to the energy and dynamic in a really positive way. They are eager to continue developing and are ready to be challenged a little more. The next stap is to engage in Youth Leadership Training. The project will take place in The Mayfield Arts Centre, Newbury House. Objectives are; *to gain an understanding of non formal learning processes*Creative approaches that are used to explore themes that are important to the young people*Youth Leadership training* To gain confidence in presenting and diseminating their experiences, creativity and learning with the publicThe project will last for 11 months and have 12 participants ages between 15 & 18
