New Procedures for New Minds

Our school brings together a very wide neighbouring area which includes about ten municipalities some of them belonging to different provinces and it is situated in the centre of Nicosia, a small town in the economically depressed Sicilian hinterland, characterized by poor infrastructures and uncomfortable roads which prevent an adequate cultural growth. The school is equipped with those common areas , special classrooms and laboratories that allow students to take advantage of modern teaching aids and technological instruments obtained thanks to European funds. An analysis of training needs has shown that the participation to training courses abroad would allow both language specialized staff and teachers of other school subjects to pursue a path of quality in order to meet the challenges of globalization and technological innovation. These activities will ensure the 20 participants a mental attitude to innovation, research , sharing good practices and updating methods , skills in communication and especially in relating the teaching methods and approaches to students' learning process . The objectives will be achieved by exploiting the benefits that the course provider offers such as: digital innovative technologies in the field of information and communication. The school staff has felt the need to update and improve its language skills , modernize its education system opening it to other education systems and training and updating it on the more innovative ideas and techniques to improve the quality of the school. During the course the participants will attend lessons on CLIL methodology and on a creative methodology whose aim is to use teaching techniques which through feedback and the identification of the error does not lower students’ motivation, classroom management techniques to improve the process of learning, innovative ways of teaching grammar and pronunciation , the integration of language and culture, information technology to facilitate the work of the teacher and motivate students , techniques to teach vocabulary in an amusing way ; techniques to develop the learners’ autonomy , the use in an integrated manner of all the language skills . Peer teaching will be a phase of confrontation and growth. There will be a lot of benefits in the short and long term. Participants will improve knowledge, skills and competences in foreign language and culture , teaching methods and classroom management in a lifelong learning perspective , the ability to teach non-language subjects in a foreign language ; explore extrinsic and intrinsic motivation . The long-term benefits will affect both the improvement of the school quality as a consequence of more motivated and qualified teachers and the students’academic success which will have a positive impact in the world of work.
