In Cyprus health care services are based on an outdated medical model which is considered as an old methodology on advanced countries in the EU. There is lack of information and a lot of misunderstanding and prejudice, exclusion and isolation as far as it concerns the people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. As a result many people with dementia miss out on opportunities for support and advice and can become isolated. As the population is getting older, it will be a great need in the next years for more staff to be trained on this issue. LCEducational provides professional training to people who work in social care sector and in particular to staff working in elderly homes or residential care. In Cyprus , unfortunately the staff working in this area has lack of training and information, therefore our participants's needs are to be trained on the new values and techniques on the theme of Alzheimer's disease and Dementia in general. Our main objective is to produce high-quality learning outcomes for our participants, to reinforce their professional development, to improve their staff competences and the their teaching methods and to create new training programs and innovative services for our clients and partners. The participants are all members of staff at LCEducational, specialised in various fields of education and training. More specifically, two sociologists, an occupational therapist, an art therapist and a special physical educator who all work as trainers for social carers, will take part in a 4 day mobility staff training in The Greek Association of Alzheimer Disease and Relative Disorders, in Greece. The training activities that will be implemented during the mobility abroad will be based on the person -centered care and on how staff dealing with people with Dementia could be more effective in the terms of new approaches. The methodologies used will be training through interactive workshops with trainers and patients with dementia based on their theoretical background, visits at patient’s houses for support, follow up and assessment, art therapy programs, physical exercises tailor made for elderly people with dementia, patients assessment sessions and rehabilitation programs with musical stimuli. As a result, our staff will improve its knowledge, skills and attitudes and acquire new competences on various subjects such as: Special methodologies on working with people with dementia, early intervention programs for elderly people, Good practices/skills on how to deal and handle people with Dementia and How to support families to live with dementia The impact of the project will be measured by the outcomes and by the influence that our trainers will have in the social carers of elderly and on the long term on people with Alzheimer and other Dementias. LCE will support the participants upon their return and will build on their acquired new competences in order to improve the quality of trainings offered. Our potential longer term goal is to create a new service in order to offer support, information and training services directly to persons with Alzheimer's and their families.
