New Enterprising Youth Exchanges has given 54 young people from UK, Sweden and Greece, New Eyes on the world and new opportunities to develop their entrepreneurial skills, giving them potential solutions to use their existing skills to think about new employment opportunities. Each sending group had 2 youth leaders. In addition the work they undertook on the programme was harnessed by the organisations involved to additionally support female entrepreneurship by using the sills of young people to work with local communities to build up the idea of a web shop that has an instant market in the respective countries. Cultural understanding and diversity was at the core of the activity and participants came from a diverse range of backgrounds all experiencing fewer opportunities at home. In addition to new skills on entrepreneurship, participants increased their confidence, aspirations, and understanding of cultural diversity, gained presentation skills, worked together as a team and essentially improved life chances and opportunities. There were also organisational learning opportunities and new insights into the development of social enterprise. Partners are all linked to the umbrella organisations involved in a recent Europe for Citizens project ‘Fostering a Citizens Europe’ which identified needs in each partner country and solutions to building economic resilience.
