NEW CITY Youth Exchange will be held from 6 to 13 May 2016 in Nowa Huta, post-socialist district of Krakow. It will be attended by young people (age 16 - 19) form Poland, Estonia and Lithuania – 8 people from every country. The subject of the project is post-socialist urban space, history of socialist cities and their present, comparison of life now and then, the city as a historical continuity and urban planning, understanding the mechanisms of functioning of the city. The project will show that these neglected places or areas have great potential and are often wrongly denied the aesthetics and functionality. It will also show how, through good promotion and revitalization activities, post-socialist industrial district is changing into a tourist attraction, a place friendly for residents, and even become fashionable. At the same time the project will sensitize young people about the dangers of revitalization processes (gentrification of city space). During the exchange participants will make a reportage about Nowa Huta referring to the formula of newsreel, perform their own piece of street art., visit the historic part of Kraków and Katowice - another example of an industrial city, meet with the researcher of post-socialist cities in Siberia. They will also tell about their cities and will present the most interesting artistic and youth initiatives there. In addition, participants will learn that their culture and integrate.
