My Philately World; a journey of culture and communication
The medium of stamps (My Philately World) offers a unique platform for five different countries to work together as a learning community to evolve a very thoughtful and creative project. Through the study of stamps, children will be able to research and analyze their own and others cultures and heritage, to search for the social values that make up countries cultures. Culminating in an imaginative project, which embeds lifelong learning skills. The impact of this project will be dynamic, and far reaching. The outcome of the project will be significant, it will demonstrate how philately can be used to support children and educationalists plan and develop a project which supports the understanding of different cultures and heritage not only in the EU but world wide. The scope of the project will include children aged from 3 to 12. Directed by teachers, who are not expert in philately but who are experts in teaching and learning, students will be able to develop creative skills and dispositions. By exchanging stamps and sharing knowledge and experiences, philately facilitates the development of social skills and friendships. The project will improve students’ foreign language competence. Stamp collecting is an activity connected with art and culture and it will enable students to reflect about their work and experiences in stamp booklets. Another purpose of this project is to include philately in education through project studies such as animations, drama, exhibitions, documentary, web site, invitation cards, etc carried out by teachers and students. These enjoyable activities will give students a chance to develop their self-confidence and creativity. Our main goal is to prove to the European Union that students can learn creatively through philately.
