Title of the project: Music made in FaïDates: 06/06/2016 – 26/06/2016Action: European youth exchangeParticipants: 20 young people from Poland, Czech Republic, Spain and FranceVenue: international hosting centre of le Faï, 05400 Le Saix (Hautes-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region).Context:In the heart of the Hautes Alpes, the association “Les Villages des Jeunes” has been managing, livening up and renovating the reception centre of le Faï in partnership with a public syndicate. It is a former agriculture domain situated at an altitude of 1000 meters. The old buildings of the farm have been developed into small apartments and group accommodations. At le Faï, from April to December, the association organizes inclusion projects for local people who are faced with social and professional difficulties and host teenagers and young adults experiencing family, health or professional difficulties in order to give them a possibility to get professional experience. In the summer, the Faï is also a place where professional artists and musicians come to work in and with this extraordinary place. Together, they create and perform at the yearly festivals that take place at the Faï. The international projects organized at the Faï contribute to make this place something “extra”, where people in different ages, from different countries and cultures, employees and volunteers, artists and tourists, live and work together for some days or several months. In 1990, a unique acoustic project was born at le Faï: two gigantic trumps (amplifiers) were built in the mountain side, in front of the semi circular cliff that overlooks the Faï farm. The music played on the trumps amplifies the natural echo of the mountains and can be heard everywhere in the valley. The youth exchange will consist in the preparation of a musical and acoustic event in order to promote this extraordinary instrument.During three weeks, the participants will set up a “musical ballad” in order to get the visitors walking around the site and experiment the music from various points: realization of artistic creations made of natural and recycled elements that will be disseminated along the walk, preparation of pieces of drama, poems or light effects in order to highlight their creations. They will also put together the sound track that will be played on the trumps by collecting pieces of music from different countries. This youth exchange will also be an opportunity for the participants to think about ways to involve the local population and young people in the preparation of a cultural event: organization of activities with the children from the villages around, the social centers and the people host at the Faï farm (teenagers coming from youth institutions, salaried people taking part in our inclusion action). Finally, the workshops, debates, exchange of best practices, visits and presentations that will be organized, will be a chance to learn about project management, to question oneself about cultural actions in rural areas and to get inspiration from innovative projects, involving a variety of local stakeholders. The workshops will be led by ex-volunteers of the association, the group leaders, the permanent team of the Faï and experts. The leadership methods employed are those inspired by our experiences in the field of international youth workcamps: working WITH the participants, working together, employing the individual talents and skills of each person… Discovery, by means of realizing a concrete and collective goal, force and diversity, learning about others and how that contributes to one's own personal development… Real-life experimentation with the values of solidarity, intercultural dialogue, and mutual assistance.By means of this exchange, we hope to promote the creativity of these young people and give them a place to come together and express themselves while adding an international dimension to a local cultural event organized in a rural location.
