Start date: Aug 1, 2014,
End date: Mar 31, 2016
PROJECT
FINISHED
The EVS project took place at Gimle, which is a music venue, cultural café and student house in Roskilde, Denmark. It was an individual EVS project, with five EVS volunteers from Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Latvia and France, and the project lasted for twelve months for each of the volunteers.
Gimle presents approximately six different cultural events a week, such as concerts, debates, work-shops, and the cultural café is open six days a week. The activities are mainly run by a team of vol-unteers consisting of a hundred volunteers, who primarily are youngsters between 16 and 25 years old, with help and advice from a small group of staff. Gimle’s volunteers run the café, do stagehand work, bartending at the concerts and so on. The EVS volunteer became part of this team both in relation to work and social activities, and the EVS volunteers thereby contributed with an intercultural dimension to Gimle and the cultural life in Roskilde.
Through culture, food, music and events, the EVS volunteers were integrated in a cultural environ-ment and young Europeans learned about one another’s cultures and traditions. Through the project the EVS volunteer had a great chance to develop social skills, language skills, skills about organizing cultural events and learned how to run a café and music venue.
The EVS volunteers were trained to be independent and flexible and got different courses such as i.e. a hygiene course certificate. The skills and experiences gained in Gimle's EVS project can be helpful for the EVS volunteers' future job search.
Any specific skills were not required, but an interest in cooking, bartending, music and events was a must.
