Museum Sign Language Guide.

The project Museum Sign Language Guide aims to develop Museum Guides for DeafPeople. These video-guides enable deaf people to receive information in museums andthus accompany deaf museum-visitors through the exhibition, transferring the sameinformation as hearing people get through audio-guides or within a guided-tour. TheMuseum Guides for Deaf People is technically based on a standard PDA, making theinformation for deaf people available on video tapes in sign language. Pilot video-guideswill be produced in three languages for exhibitions of our partner-museums.During the testing phase, the pilot video-guides will be tested and evaluated by deafmuseum-visitors. Based on the evaluation-results, Guidelines for the Production ofMuseumGuides for Deaf People will be compiled, with recommendations for aprofessional production of further video tapes in sign language following the end of theproject duration. As hard of hearing people form a rather large group of disadvantagedpeople, in addition to the display of video-guides, an application for the Museum SignLanguage Guide will be developed for hard of hearing people using a hearing-aid. A socalledTelecoil (T-coil, induction coil) allows the sound source to be directly connected tothe hearing aid, improving the sound-quality and allowing the person using a hearing-aidto perceive the information without any background noise.
