PROJECT
FINISHED
The EVS project – Moving in the SAME direction – is a cooperation between SHL e.V. from Germany (the hosting organisation), Joetz from Belgium (the sending organisation) and Jana De Poorter from Belgium, the EVS volunteer. Jana has been actively involved in Zuiddag vzw for 5 years. Like SHL, Zuiddag organizes an annual Action Day during which thousands of high school students go work for one day, thereby fundraising for and spreading awareness about youth projects elsewhere in the world. Since 2011, the Action Day organizations across Europe have started to work more closely together by organizing an annual summer camp to facilitate best practice exchange between the volunteers at these different organizations.
Jana’s EVS project at SHL will have 3 main focusses: Firstly, she will support SHL’s SAME Working Group by (a) assisting in the planning, execution and evaluation of the SAME meetings and weekends in Germany and (b) supporting the officers in charge of New Action Day Initiatives and Learning Network & Quality in their tasks. Secondly, she will ‘bring Europe to SHL’ by inviting volunteers from the other European Action Day organizations to activities such as the local SHL activist meetings and camps and coordinating these international visits. Last but not least, she will represent a bridge between SHL and the other Action Day organizations in Europe when it comes to the exchange of best practices. Concretely, she will gather, formalize and provide these European best practices in cooperation with the so-called strategy and empowerment groups within SHL.
The MISD project provides a safe space for creative and independent learning based no-formal working methods and the youth pass process.
Through the MISD project, Jana will enhance her employability and career prospects as a result of improving her key competences (foreign language, digital, learning to learn, social and civic, sense of initiative and entrepreneurship and cultural awareness and expression). Furthermore, the project will contribute towards achieving progress regarding the establishment of New Action Day Initiatives and the Internationalisation of the organisation, two of the annual aims of the hosting organization SHL. The sending organization, Joetz, will have gained extra experience in supporting an EVS volunteer throughout their voluntary service.
Besides the participants and participating organisations, this project aims to create a positive impact at the European level. Here, the desired impact is twofold: on the one hand, the MISD project will strenghten the SAME network by using EVS for purposes of intensive best practice exchange between the different Action Day organizations across Europe, setting a strong precedent for similar exchanges in the future and informing participants about the European dimension of the activities they are a part of. On the other hand, one of the main focusses of this project is assisting New Action Day Initiatives in their development, hopefully facilitating more and more European youth organizations who share the SAME values to kickstart their own Action Day Initiative and become part of the SAME network.
