Moving for Learning
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project will be developed on the basis of activities for children and youngsters of Peniche, in a free time activities centre. By offering a volunteering opportunity to young people with fewer opportunities using the short term EVS to support their personal development, the project has the following objectives: • To engage youth with fewer opportunities in a diverse range of activities, such as the provision of education through the non formal education with children and youngsters that will support their social inclusion and integration. • To provide space for young people (15 in total from 5 countries) with diverse religions, socio-economic backgrounds and ages to contribute to a positive change in another country and thus to stimulate active and responsible European citizenship, which is central to European ideals and values of democracy, solidarity and participation. • To provide space for the volunteers to gain and exercise competences in leadership, communication and organisation skills, to extend their social networks. • Through their participation in international volunteer projects, the volunteers will have opportunities to find creative solutions to societal issues and to transfer these solutions to their home countries. The Project will take place in Peniche (Portugal), during 24 months, between August 2015 and July 2017. It will involve five international partners, from Croatia, Italy, France, Macedonia and Poland, and each of them will send three volunteers. The project consist in giving support and bring new ideas into a free time activities centre of Associação Juvenil Peniche (AJP) Youth organisation of Peniche. With this experience, because he/she will find himself/herself in a new reality, having to deal autonomously with important decisions in everyday life and being integrated in a different community, we expect the volunteer to feel responsible for the tasks he/she will have to develop, as well as will learn from the contact with the work team, the local population and the interaction with other volunteers, from different nationalities, cultures, religions, lifestyles, etc. The volunteer will also improve communication skills, as he/she will have to understand and make himself/herself understood through the usage of english and/or the native language of the country (portuguese) in which the project takes place. Medium and long term benefits are also expected for the volunteer, since it is likely that he/she makes decisions about his/her future life, in terms of going back to school or perceiving what he/she is willing to do professionally, in case of any doubts about it before the project. In any case, new competences will have been acquired after having been through such an experience.
